Anime Pilgrimage #8: Given

While doing some exploration of the locations of Given using Google Street Maps, I decided to set off and visit personally the actual places featured in the anime. Most of the location were found along the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku Station.

Some of the photos weren’t exactly recreated as the anime scene due to the limitation of my focal length (I used 40mm pancake lens).

Machida (町田)

Machida is one the notable location in Given. It is where our main character, Mafuyu lives. Scenes from the anime were mostly found at Machida Station especially at the platform for Odakyu Lines.

The Play House, where Mafuyu was working as a part time, is an actual music live house in Machida.  By the time I went there, the live house was closed so I only took a photo on the store front.

Another real live house located in Machida is the Classix Machida where Haruki first met Uenoyama. It can be found around the JR Machida Station’s Central South Exit.

From scenes in Episode 6, Mafuyu passed some places before arriving to Odakyu Machida Station.

Shimokitazawa (下北沢)

Shimokitazawa is where their practice studio, Rinky Dink Studio, is located.

There were also places near the practice studio that appeared in the anime.

So as the Shimokitazawa Station East Exit.

From a scene in episode 5, Little By Tech, a music repair shop, is also found in Shimokitazawa.

Kyodo (経堂)

Kyodo Station was featured in a few seconds from episode 3.

Tamagawa (多摩川)

The riverside that overlooks the Tama River and Noborito Station. This place was also seen in popular series like Fruit Basket and Run with the Wind.

Shibuya (渋谷)

Shibuya appeared in episode 5 where Mafuyu and Uenoyama went to visit a guitar shop to buy guitar effect pedal.

Uenoyama and Mafuyu waited each other at the ticketing gate in Inokashira Line.

And walked at the pedestrian bridge around Shibuya Station East Gate.

Grandley & Jungle was also appeared in the anime but rebranded into Forest Guitars.

Fujisawa-Kamakura (藤沢・鎌倉)

Fujisawa appeared at episode 6 as Mafuyu goes to visit Kamakura Yuigahama Beach. Fujisawa Station is a 30-minute ride from Machida Station via Odakyu Enoshima Line.

He rode a bus bound for Kamakura Station.

Mafuyu get off at Kaigan Dori bus stop and walked on a small alleyway going to Kamakura Yuigahama Beach. Since I took this pilgrimage during summer, tons of people were at the beach.

Hi Krissy! I’m a reader from China. Would you mind me using these pictures you’ve posted in this page to my blog? I have tagged the link of your page as the references , and I have added the GPS coordinate for each scene so that it’ll be easier for me when planing the animie pilgrimage tour to Japan.
In the end, really thank you for the effort you’ve made to find these reality places from the animie!
